Studying in Czechia in Czech at a public university is free of tuition, which is the fact that draws most applicants. English-taught programmes charge fees but remain modest by Western European standards, and living costs outside Prague are lower again.
The constraint is not the criteria. It is time. Long-stay study visa processing is measured in months rather than weeks, and appointment availability at the representation is limited. A file that would succeed comfortably in March will fail in July simply because the calendar has run out.
What the file contains
Admission confirmation, proof of accommodation for the duration, evidence of sufficient funds, travel medical insurance meeting the specified coverage, a criminal record extract, and academic documents with the appropriate legalisation.
The accommodation confirmation must be in the prescribed form signed by the provider. A booking confirmation or an intention to find housing does not satisfy it, and this single document delays more Czech applications than any other.
Nostrification
Recognition of foreign secondary or higher qualifications, known locally as nostrification, is required for many programmes and is a separate procedure with its own timeline. Some universities handle recognition internally for their own admissions; others require the general procedure.
Establish which applies to your target institution before you build the schedule, because the difference is measured in months.
After arrival
You will collect a biometric residence permit and register as required. Keep the accommodation documentation, because it is requested again at this stage.
Free Czech-taught study is genuinely free, but it requires a certified level of Czech that takes a preparatory year to reach for most applicants. Budget for that year rather than assuming it away.
