The study project interview
The interview is not a language test and it is not a formality. It examines whether your proposed study in France follows coherently from what you have already studied and where you say you are going. A candidate who cannot explain why this programme, at this institution, in France specifically, is not making a persuasive case regardless of their grades.
This is the single most preparable part of the French route and the one most often left unprepared. The answer has to be true, specific, and consistent with the documents in the file.
Funding and accommodation
You will need to demonstrate sufficient monthly means for your stay, and France applies a per-month standard rather than a single lump sum. Public university tuition is comparatively low, which makes France affordable relative to Anglophone destinations, but living costs in Paris are not low and the shortlist should reflect that.
Accommodation evidence is part of the file. Student residences exist and are competitive, and private rentals commonly require a French guarantor, which is a real obstacle worth solving early rather than on arrival.
Language
English-taught programmes have expanded considerably, particularly at master's level and in business and engineering schools. That said, a French qualification will ask about your French for daily life even where instruction is in English, and the study-project interview will notice if your plan assumes an entirely English environment that does not exist.
Beginning French early is a cheap investment that improves both the application and the year itself.
