How to Apply for a Turkey Study Visa from Pakistan

Türkiye Bursları is the headline, but the self-funded route is quietly one of the most accessible corridors available to Pakistani students.

Türkiye has become a serious destination for Pakistani students on two separate tracks. The first is Türkiye Bursları, a comprehensive government scholarship covering tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and a year of Turkish language tuition. The second is self-funded study, where tuition at many Turkish universities is low enough to be viable for families who could not fund a Western European degree.

The two routes have different applications, different deadlines, and different visa consequences, and conflating them is the most common planning error we see.

The scholarship track

Türkiye Bursları runs on an annual cycle with a single online application in which you name your preferred universities and programmes. It is competitive, it is scored, and it looks at academic record, the coherence of your stated goals, and your fit with the programmes you have chosen.

Choosing programmes carelessly is a real cost here. The application asks you to rank preferences, and a ranking that does not follow logically from your academic background reads as someone applying to everything rather than to something.

The visa itself

The student visa is applied for at the Turkish representation once you hold an acceptance letter. Expect to provide the acceptance document, proof of funds where self-funded, accommodation evidence, insurance, and attested academic documents.

After arrival you apply for a residence permit within the required window. As with the other corridors, this in-country step is where administratively casual students create problems for themselves.

Language and recognition

Many Turkish programmes are taught in Turkish, with a preparatory language year for scholarship holders. English-taught programmes exist across a growing number of institutions but are more limited and more competitive.

If your intention is to work or study further outside Türkiye afterwards, check how your specific institution and degree are recognised in the destinations you have in mind. That question is much cheaper to answer before you enrol than after you graduate.
